Pair of Exceptional Vintage Bears bags
Extremely rare and incredible pair of vintage bear little bags. In the style of Steiff.
Vintage. Very good condition. No button, no ear tag.
The first piece is a "Teddy Bar Tasche" (Teddy Bear handbag).
It looks like the classic 1908 "Alfonzo" aesthetic, famously associated with bears gifted to Princess Xenia of Russia. The bear has articulated limbs and felt paw pads. The head and torso form the pouch, with a cord strap for carrying. It typically features black glass eyes and a hand-stitched nose. The interior is lined with red and brown fabric.
The second piece is the grey "Guardian Angel" themed bear handbag, crafted from silver-grey mohair. It is distinguished by large feather wings attached to the back. The bear wears a dark velvet-style hat embellished with a flower. The interior purse is lined with blue silk and is in perfect condition.
A bit of history:
Steiff is a German company founded in 1880 by Margarete Steiff. Originally producing handcrafted fabric toys, the company quickly gained popularity throughout Europe.
The world's first teddy bear was created in 1902 by Richard Steiff. In the early 20th century (circa 1904–1920), Steiff produced teddy bear handbags and purses for wealthy women and young girls of high society. These items were considered a luxury fashion accessory at the time.
Today, Steiff continues to release limited editions of these iconic "bear bags" for collectors worldwide.
