Description:

Isabel Canovas Divine Haute Couture Tassel bag/belt c.1980
Exceptional Haute Couture set by Isabel Canovas, crafted in turquoise velvet and silk, enriched with passementerie work and crystal embroidery.
This highly couture ensemble perfectly illustrates Isabel Canovas' universe, defined by a bold use of materials, decorative sophistication and refined couture elegance.

The set is composed of a spectacular fringe bag and its matching belt, executed in a sumptuous arrangement of fringes and braided trims in blue-green and emerald tones, creating a striking interplay of texture, movement and light characteristic of Canovas' aesthetic.
The abundant fringes and generous tassels lend the ensemble a theatrical, sensual and resolutely couture allure, transforming the silhouette into a true decorative composition.

A little bit of history
Isabel Canovas is a renowned French couture jewelry and accessories designer, active from the late 1970s onward. In addition to her iconic sculptural fashion jewelry, she also created bags, belts, and couture accessories, conceived as integral elements of the overall fashion silhouette.
Her work is distinguished by bold volumes, expressive forms, and vibrant colors, drawing inspiration from nature, antiquity, Baroque art, and theatrical costume. Using non-precious materials—gilded metal, resin, glass, cabochons, enamel—she elevated costume jewelry and accessories to the level of wearable couture art.
Isabel Canovas collaborated extensively with major haute couture houses, including Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Lacroix, Chanel, and Dior, and her creations were regularly featured on runways and in editorial fashion.
Her work is today represented in several major museum collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and other international fashion and design institutions, confirming her importance in the history of 20th-century couture jewelry and accessories.
