Description:

CIS Cissy Zoltowska Haute Couture Necklace c.1960
A fabulous and historically significant creation by Cissy Zoltowska. This necklace was clearly conceived for haute couture, possibly for Balenciaga or Madame Grès. Based on our CIS archives, this necklace can be definitely attributed to the Autumn–Winter 1960–61 collection. We will provide a copy of this specific archive with this exceptional haute couture necklace.
In this archive, CIS described its inspiration as drawn from the magnificence of Asia, expressed through finely chiselled detailing, graceful curves and sharp, angular forms, edged with coloured stones set into gold-leafed surfaces. The design also references the lost and rediscovered temple of Angkor, emerging from the dense embrace of an impenetrable jungle.
Its pure, vibrant colours and iridescent half-tones evoke the mysterious and untamed greens of the great jungle, translating an exotic and poetic vision into a jewel of exceptional presence.

The composition of the necklace unfolds in a cascading arrangement of finely textured stylised leaves, articulated together to create a striking effect of volume, movement, and light.
The gilt metal is punctuated with emerald-green and crystal stones, adding chromatic contrast and depth, in a spirit that is at once baroque, organic, and unmistakably couture.
